If you follow TTM closely, you might be dizzied by the bevy of outlets we have on-line. We really aren’t looking to confuse you. Each place has its own purpose. Here, friends, is a comprehensive (and ever evolving) list of Transition Town Media’s presence on the internet.
That’s right. This website. The one you are reading right now. This is TTM’s primary website where you will find the most content about our efforts and concerns. Each of our working groups have content here — Economy, Energy, Food (including the Yardens project), Free Store, Inner Transition (formerly Heart and Soul), Reskilling (aka Skillsharing), and Time Bank. You will also find our calendar which lists TTM’s meetings, events, and events of interest hosted by other organizations in the area or on-line. Still want more? We have an on-line archive which includes meeting minutes, governance documents, brochures, flyers, and links to past newsletters as well. And let’s not forget, that this is where you can make secure on-line donations to Transition Town Media or any of our initiatives.
This site tells you all about Timebanking, TimeBank Media, related topics, and happenings. Get your timebanking questions answered and join up! Once you are a member of TBM, you’ll find service offers are requests, and create your own time dollar listings on Community Weaver.
Community Weaver aka media.timebanks.org:
Community Weaver is a tool provided to TBM by TimeBanks USA. Here, members of TBM list their service offers and requests, log time spent and earned, and communicate with other TBM members. A log-in is required to access most of this site’s members-only information.
TTM’s latest large venture is the Media Free Store which opened June 1, 2014. This website provides the philosophy behind the Media Free Store as well as nitty-gritty info like how to volunteer, or donate goods or money to the cause, as well as hours and location.
We’re on Instagram now! With it currently being one of the most popular social media sites, we thought it would be a good time to jump on the Instagram train and reach out to as many people as possible. In hopes to attract all ages, Instagram is a great place to socialize with locals in addition to getting the message out about Transition Towns to people all over the country. All you have to do is click that link and “Follow” us on Instagram and you’ll see our posts right in your newsfeed. We hope to see you there and to swap photos/ideas regarding our beloved Transition Town!
Facebook pages are a place for organizations or businesses to communicate with Facebook participants who have “liked” their page. TTM has two Facebook pages. We’d love to have you “like” our pages. And if you’d like to see our posts more prominently in your FB newsfeed, you will need to “interact” with our pages by liking, sharing, or commenting on our posts.
Transition Town Media
This is our primary FB page where we share general Transition-themed information and highlight TTM events and happenings.
Time Bank Media
This FB page allows us to share general timebanking information and news as well as specific TimeBank Media happenings.
Facebook groups allow FB users with shared interests to interact together. Unlike FB pages, where a business or organization shares information with its followers, a FB group is a place where all group members create and share postings. Facebook groups can be very dynamic.
TTM Swap, Share, Meet
This was TTM’s first FB group and has been a wonderful place to expand our transition community in the Media area. The “Swap Page” (as it is often called, although it is not technically a FB page) is used to facilitate community and collaborative consumption in Media, PA and the surrounding communities. The group is approaching 1,000 members and is very active. Unfortunately, Facebook was suggesting the group to FB users in Delaware County who were also members of garage sale groups and the Swap Page is not just another garage sale group. The group has always been about building real-life community, so it’s essential that it be kept local to Media and the immediate surrounding area. For that reason, the group became a secret FB group. To join the group, please email your request to email@example.com.
This rapidly growing group brings together all types of Free Store stakeholders — volunteers, donors, “shoppers”, and people from all over the world who are watching this incredible experiment that is the Media FreeStore. The group is a place to discuss issues related to the FreeStore, highlight FreeStore offerings, and just generally share support of and interest in the Media FreeStore. There is a separate FB page for FreeStore volunteers to discuss logistics and issues related to staffing the store.
TTM Local Business Network Group
This group grew out of the TTM Swap group, which does not allow commercial postings. We wanted a place to promote local businesses and connect them to local shoppers. It’s a great place to connect with local makers and other purveyors.
Greater Media Yardens Group
The Yardens group was formed as a venue for sharing information about urban gardening in Media, PA. The group welcomes gardeners and non-gardeners alike who wish to support sustainable food production, especially in home-based gardens.
The TimeBank Media Group
This group is an extra forum to encourage interactions and exchanges between TimeBank Media (TBM) members and other community member interested in supporting each other by providing services. You don’t need to be a TBM member to join, but most people posting here will be offering and/or expecting TimeDollars for their services.
TTM Reskilling Group
This group is dedicated to community members teaching and learning from each other. Members are interested in developing such skills as making homemade household cleaners and personal care products, canning and preserving, making homemade cheese, making wine and honey mead, gardening, permaculture, homesteading, raising chickens, mushroom propagation, knitting, sewing, and so much more.
