This hearing will focus officially on ground disturbance and water quality impacts. Mariner East 2, if built, would carry shale gas liquids, which are hazardous, volatile and explosive, across Pennsylvania in order to primarily export the liquids overseas, polluting and creating climate harms at every phase (drilling, fracturing, waste; processing and export; end use).
Mariner East 2 was the second pipeline in one short month (April 2016) in Pennsylvania to actually clear-cut trees despite not having a permit: please read that heartbreaking story of impacts and resistance here on Truthout.
In June 2016, the Commonwealth Court of PA ruled in favor of Clean Air Council in its bid to sue Sunoco Logistics to stop it from using eminent domain, throwing out a challenge by Sunoco: Appeals Court Clears Way for Eminent Domain Suit Against Sunoco Logistics (Jon Hurdle, StateImpact.)
The Gerharts lost their battle to save their trees. Clean Air Council is battling it out in court. Now is the PERFECT time for you to help stop this pipeline.
The opposition — the industry forces — are currently jamming inboxes, phonebanking, using Twitter and otherwise currently out-organizing the voices of sanity and reason– the anti-fracking, clean water, clean air, climate justice and sane energy future voices — to generate pro-pipeline turnout for all DEP hearings!
Please show up and argue for clean water pipeline infrastructure jobs, and of course renewable energy sector and energy efficiency jobs, not temporary, harmful, short-term boom and bust dirty energy jobs.
Please show up to defend those living in shale country with frack pits, re-injection wells, separators, compressor stations and all the rest of it; please show up to fight back against the most destructive proposed shale gas liquids export pipeline ever to threaten our climate, our land and our people.
