Chester County Citizens for Climate Protection invites you to join us to participate in our program: Italian Market Passive House – Up on the Roof!
Laura Blau, AIA is an award winning architect and principal of BluPath. She is a Certified Passive House Consultant (2009) as well as a Certified Passive House Builder (2012). The combined certifications underscore her knowledge of both design and construction management issues from design strategies, to sequencing and oversight of deep energy and sustainable historic renovations. Blau is a founding member and Vice President of the Greater Philadelphia Passive House Association (GPPHA).
The Italian Market Passive House is BluPath’s lucky 13th Passive House project and the first to be built. Our clients, Liana and Mark Ottaviani, are great collaborators who allowed us to fully engage our expertise. We built a team of consultants and contractors who worked well together. It was the first Passive House project for most of us.
Considering only BluPath’s recommended contactors, our clients vetted and engaged Hanson General Contracting for early estimating and construction consultation. Together with the GC we found and selected subcontractors we all felt comfortable with. The overall respect and cooperation between players made the work move more smoothly and created a real community ownership of the project’s goals.
We want to share our insights around critical issues regarding the sequencing of construction from schematic design, framing, air sealing, insulation and mechanical systems location. We will share the early construction details and illuminate the progression as details morphed through the design and modeling process and then again through the implementation process. We will highlight solutions, simplified details, and how we tunneled through cost barriers to achieve both Passive House and create beautiful space.
