“In my soul
there is a temple, a shrine, a mosque, a church
where I kneel.
Prayer should bring us to an altar where no walls or names exist.”
This verse is from Rabia of Basra, a female Islamic mystic from the 700s. It has been with Friend Francisco Burgos, Pendle Hill’s Director of Education, for many months as he continues to prepare himself for the Kairos retreat he will be leading from July 11-14, 2019. Kairos (καιρός) is an ancient Greek noun describing an opportune and decisive moment, a combination of time and place that generates the opportune environment for actions, words, and/or movements. This workshop is intended to create a unique space for spiritual growth by combining key practices from Quaker and other faith traditions.
Complete details about the retreat are here. Please feel free to contact Francisco directly with further questions. Financial aid may be available from Pendle Hill for those who need it.
