The West Chester Community Rights Alliance and the West Chester University (WCU) Sustainability Advisory Council are sponsoring a stop on the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund’s “Time for a Pennsylvania Revolt Tour” on Tuesday April 5 at WCU’s Brandywine Hall, 6-8 pm. This event is not to be missed for anyone who seeks to truly understand why efforts to resist pipelines and create clean energy futures for our neighborhoods and communities are met with so much resistance from regulators and representatives. In a nutshell, it is fundamentally illegal to be sustainable because our system of law is rigged in full favor of special interests – not the least of which is the gas industry.
More importantly, this event focuses on ways we can work together to address the problem. In West Chester Borough, voters passed an Environmental Community Bill of Rights (passed in the Nov 2015 election with 73% of the vote), which bans pipelines and dirty energy infrastructure in our community. We are now working on a fossil fuel alternative plan and are not allowing the regulatory doctrines that aim to prevent us from actualizing this goal stop us. These are our neighborhoods, these are our communities, and this is about our children’s and grandchildren’s very future.
Please join us, and learn how communities across the state are taking on corporations and the State of Pennsylvania.
