After-film discussion
Documentary. 110 min. 2016. Directed and written by Michael Moore. Rated R for language, some violent images, drug use, brief nudity.
Michael Moore’s expansive, bone-tickling look at how other countries address social problems. His latest investigative foray takes a lighter touch, trading biting sarcasm for the warmth of humor.
And where would he “invade” next?
In Italy, happy workers enjoy holidays and time off that would stun North Americans.
In Germany, workers earn generous wages, and employers are penalized if they email their staff after hours or on weekends.
In Portugal, the citizenry lives just fine without arrests for drug abuse.
In Slovenia, a university education is free.
And on and on….The way other societies are performing.
These eye-opening stories impart radically different alternatives to entrenched social problems and challenges. The viewer comes away with a more hopeful spirit, seeing that things can really change by (of all things) learning from our neighbors.
