Green Sunday —Reimagined

Posted on November 20, 2020

The COVID virus has had us rethink nearly everything, stretching our creativity to the max. We’ve had to forgo most events this year, but with the winter holidays approaching, we felt we just had to have our annual holiday craft fair: Green Sunday! So this year, Green Sunday is going virtual.

Green Sunday is Transition Town Media’s alternative holiday shopping experience. Instead of buying from big box stores, we invite you to shop locally, supporting our community’s creative folk who work hard to beautifully craft one-of-a-kind items that are sure to delight everyone on your gift list. These include homemade items such as honey, soap, and wool; handcrafted items, such as jewelry & textiles; and upcycled items, such as books crafted into art objects.

Here’s how you can shop this year. Starting on Sunday, Nov 8th at 8AM, click here to see the page of vendors on our website. Browse through the images there and click on what catches your eye. That will open up that artist’s website or social media site where you can browse all their offerings. Make your purchases and work out payment & pickup through each vendor’s site.

The Green Sunday Holiday Craft Fair was born from the desire to dial back the frenzy and impersonal commercialization of holiday shopping. Buying locally from artists and craftspeople who make a living making unique, creative items from their own hands and their own imagination is an entirely different experience than the craziness of Black Friday or the faceless interactions of Cyber Monday. It brings the meaning and loving care of the holiday season back to gift-buying and supports your neighborhood artists as well!

Browse the beautiful images on our website page and click on each one that appeals to you. From there on, you’ll be dealing directly with the artist, on their website or social media page. Make your selections and payment through them.

We’ll also have raffle baskets and you can buy chances for them. These will be made up of sample items from our participating craftspeople. The value of each basket will be about $100—but you can try your luck at winning one for much less! Details will follow.

Shop early and shop often! The site is live starting on Sunday, Nov 8th, and it will stay live through Dec 31st for your shopping convenience.

If you are a local artisan who makes beautiful gift items by hand and would like to participate, please fill out the application and follow the instructions there. We’d love to support you!
