The Fourth Annual Media FreeMarket is Days Away!
And We Need YOU!
You make the FreeMarket a fun and successful event. What can you do?
A. Save some stuff to donate
B. Hang this poster on your yard sale table or front yard tree in Media borough on the day of the event and days leading to it and/or hand out some of our quarter page handouts. Printable versions.
C. VOLUNTEER! We need lots of hands. See details at the bottom of this newsletter.
Thanks for your continued support of TTM and our programs.
The Media FreeMarket is on Sunday, September 20th. The event runs from 2-5, but we set-up at 1 pm and clean-up past five. We need volunteers and wee bit of “stuff”. The list of needs is below. Please email us if you can fill any of the volunteer spots. No need to message about the stuff. You can just bring that! Please NOTE: Volunteers should plan NOT to park at Providence Friends Meeting. Parking is at a premium and we can’t afford to lock spaces for an extended period. Car-pooling, drop-offs, walking, biking, or off-site parking are appreciated.
Parking/Traffic Team: As noted, parking is at a premium. We need four people working on this at all times (maybe only 3 after 4 pm). One will staff the entrance driveway. One will facilitate efficient parking in the back lot and communicate with the person working the entrance. And two people will serve as floaters. This team requires people who are assertive, polite, and out-going. Could this be you? Martin Pepper leads this team and oversee the process. (RSVPs still go to me!)
Set-up Crew: We’ll set up the “crowd control ropes” in the morning, but we still need to arrange tables, TTM literature, chairs, tarps, signage and few other things. Set-up runs from 1-2.
FreeMarket Mavens: During the event, volunteers are needed to keep things running smoothly and to help get out the TTM message. Tasks include directing donors on how to display their wares, consolidating donations, monitoring donations so we don’t get “forbidden” items or anything brought in after 4 pm, and the like.
Clean-up Cavalcade: We start clean-up shortly before 5 pm. Unclaimed items will go to Goodwill, Green Drop, the Free Store and other designated locations. We need people to pack things, ****VEHICLES**** to load into, and people to transfer the donations. We will also flatten cardboard for recycling, package trash, and remove all of it from the site. We’ve had some pretty fantastic clean-up crews in the past and the work is done quickly and with great camaraderie.
Stuff: We need more tarps and blankets to display FreeMarket donations. We are happy to return them to you if they are clearly labeled (or, better yet, have you pick them up at 5). Refreshments … liquid, solid, nutritious, or junky. We get thirsty and tired and have a lot of folks in and out of this event. It’s nice to feed and hydrate them!
We’re happy to complete community service paperwork that you supply.
We’d love for you to join us for the whole day or part of it. Please email us if you can volunteer and indicate the times and tasks you prefer. We love this event. The energy is always great. The gratitude is palpable. And the spirit of cooperation and community is a big part of fun. Won’t you please be a part? Thanks so much!
Best regards,
