George Lakey is helping to recruit Friends for a “Grandparents Walk for Climate Justice” to protest JP Morgan Chase Bank’s position as the #1 funder of fossil fuels.
At a time of urgent need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and when some have been ordered to cut emissions, JP Morgan Chase continues to invest in fossil fuels even after it has pledged to invest $2.5 trillion in climate solutions. Click HERE to read the Sierra Club’s short press release about this.
There will be a rally at Independence Hall in Philadelphia on June 25 at 10:30 AM, followed by action at nearby Chase Bank location. Afternoon action at PECO/Philadelphia Electric Company (owned by Exelon). Possible action at fossil fuel polluting site TBD.
The “Grandparents Walk” will come through Delaware County on Saturday, June 26th, stopping to support local environmental health and justice campaigns at the Covanta “trash-to-energy” incinerator in Chester and at the Marcus Hook Industrial Complex. There will be a morning rally at 9 AM at Governor Printz Park in Essington, PA near Philly airport, across river from proposed Gibbstown LNG export terminal. Then, a walk to Chester to site of polluting Covanta incinerator, and a walk to site of Marcus Hook oil refinery. Please come to support these local environmental justice groups and welcome the marchers on their way to Wilmington. Friends wishing to participate in the march should contact Margaret Mansfield by June 19.
A direct action civil disobedience protest will take place at the JP Morgan Chase headquarters in Wilmington on Monday, June 28. Those wishing to engage in civil disobedience there should take the orientation and training session as on June 27. Visit the Grandparents Walk website for more information.
