The Chester County Citizens for Climate Protection (4CP) present this talk by Barbara Clarke, a project manager with Bonnett Associates Incorporated where she supports design teams through review and validation of the sustainable design process. Barbara will present an overview of the Green Globes certification program. Green Globes, administered in the US by the Green Building Initiative, is considered a credible and cost‐effective alternative to other building certification programs available in the marketplace. The Green Globes process includes on‐site building assessments by trained third‐party assessors to evaluate and certify the building with one to four Green Globes.
Ms. Clarke was with Drexel University when they vetted and decided to use Green Globes exclusively as a tool for certifying new construction on campus. Green Globes has been used on an array of campus buildings. At Drexel University, the Integrated Sciences Building and the Recreation Center addition both achieved three Green Globes. The Millennium Residence Hall—a 17‐story dormitory opened in 2009—and the 5,000‐square‐foot Northside Dining Terrace both earned two Green Globes. Furthermore, the College of Business building and the new URBN Center have been certified with Green Globes. After leading six of Drexel’s buildings through the Green Globes process Barbara has then become a Green Globes Professional and assessor for the Green Building Initiative.
Ms. Clarke, lead architect on projects such as these, will discuss the attributes of using Green Globes on these projects and other schools.
