Celebrate the start of May and Media Happiness Week at the Hometown Jubilee – a day of fun, food, family, and fellowship. A collaboration among the local Quaker communities and Transition Town Media (TTM), the Hometown Jubilee is an affirmation of our wonderful town and all its people. On Saturday, May 2nd, the festivities begin at 9:00am with a “Happy Neighbors Walk” from Media Providence Friends Meeting at 3rd & Orange St, up the length of State Street to the Providence Friends Meeting at 105 N. Providence Road. There, families and friends are invited to learn more about all our town has to offer, participate in outdoor fun, and enjoy a delicious potluck lunch buffet. A Town Hall-style meeting will take place inside at about 10am where people can share what makes them happy about Media. There will be guided crafts and games for children, childcare for little ones, a meditation labyrinth, music, and merriment for all. At noon, a potluck lunch buffet will be served. Please bring a side dish, salad or dessert to share if you like – we’ll provide the main course! Food can be dropped off before the walk at Providence Friends as early as 7am.
Along with other religious and secular institutions in Media, the two Quaker meetings and TTM have a commitment to community-building, peacemaking, resilience, and justice. Since 1684, Friends have worked toward stronger neighborhood relationships, judicial fairness, and opportunities for peace-building. TTM engages in numerous local initiatives with a focus on sharing. Notable are the Free Store, skills workshops, timebanking, raising food, and reducing carbon emissions. Come join these organizations as they celebrate their work and re-commit to the vision of peaceful, strong neighborhoods where all people are safe and valued.
