Last year’s murder of George Floyd sparked intense national discussion on the nature of policing and how to prevent the harming of unarmed citizens, who often are people of color. Providence Meeting is partnering with the Nether Providence Police Accountability Committee to host an online conversation to help neighbors and friends in our Delaware County community think about this important issue, by focusing on the following question: What makes communities feel safe? Conventional wisdom says the best and only answer to that question is policing. But is that true? Are there ways to address and prevent community harm that don’t involve physical force and control?
Many communities are considering whether there are alternative ways to address a wide range of crisis situations and harm prevention that society currently expects to be handled by policing. We hope you will join us for this very relevant, highly interactive, and engaging online conversation, where we will learn from each other and explore these ideas together.
Registration is limited to ensure participants can fully engage with each other in small group discussion, so don’t delay, register today!
