Dr. Richard Tolin will provide an introduction to basic climatology, discuss some of the impacts of climate change on global and local systems of health, water, and nutrition, and review available technologies and policy choices to mitigate the crisis. Dr. Tolin has been a practicing gastroenterologist at Paoli Hospital for 40 years. In 2017 he became a member of the Climate Reality Leadership Corps, which was founded by Al Gore to catalyze a global solution to the climate crisis. Its leadership Corps consists of over 1400 individuals from 135 countries, who have been trained to provide a speakers’ network and to initiate US and international campaigns.
Christine Knapp will address the issue of energy efficiency and sustainability within the city of Philadelphia. She is the Director of the Office of Sustainability for the City of Philadelphia. The Office includes an Energy Office which works to create more energy efficiency within city government. Also housed is The Philadelphia Food Policy Advisory Council which connects Philadelphians and their city government to create a local food system that is healthy, fair and sustainable.
