Have you seen ‘When They See Us?’ This much talked about Netflix mini-series is based on events of the 1989 Central Park jogger case and explores the lives of the families of the five male suspects who were prosecuted in 1990 on charges related to the rape and assault of a woman in Central Park, New York City, the year before.
Two Chester Housing Authority community groups, ‘Women’s Circle’ and ‘Fathers are Talking’ invite you to gather at Red Brick Cafe for a community conversation about the challenges of racism and social justice. Selected clips from ‘When They See Us’ will spark an open discussion and dialogue among those gathered as we incorporate the arts into a solutions based forum of ideas and opinion.
Time: 6pm. Date: Wednesday, July 10, 2019. Place: Red Brick Cafe. 514 W. Union Street, Chester, PA 19013 (the former community center in the William Penn Housing Development). Seating is limited.
The Chester Community Conversation Series continues in September with a discussion on school teasing and bullying. Date to be announced.
The Chester Community Conversations Series is sponsored by the Chester Housing Authority’s ‘Women’s Circle’ and ‘Fathers are Talking’ initiatives.
Guests are strongly encouraged to watch the entire Netflix Series and additional free, related content before attending the event.
