Our lecture series this year has been focused on food, for humans and for farm animals. We haven’t talked about food for all the other living creatures we share the world with – the wildlife. How will they survive if humans continue appropriating the land they live on, killing off native food sources and polluting streams with chemicals, and often treating them as nuisances?
This lecture will explore the native wildlife in our urban and suburban neighborhoods – their natural behaviors and their importance to a biologically diverse ecology. It will also talk about what humans can do to protect habitat and food sources, and when and how you might lend a helping hand to an injured or orphaned animal.
Our presenter, Jackie Williams Kent, is President of Wildlife Rehabilitation Support of PA (WRSPA) and Education Director of Philly Metro Wildlife Center (PHWC). Jackie is an environmental educator who has developed and delivered over 100 wildlife programs for a variety of audiences, from preschool-aged children to senior citizens. She is also a member of the International Association of Avian Trainers and Educators (IAATE), and the International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council (IWRC). And don’t be surprised if some “special guests” accompany her to the lecture.
